UGA's campus is flooded with marketable contenders, but hitting the books takes a lot of time away from dating. Every year, we take the best of the best at UGA and auction them off for dates to raise money for our kids! We like to think if it as FUNdraising, as we raised over $7,000 in 2008 AND 2009 from this single event.
Each year, seasoned golfers, corporate sponsors and alumni get together to support UGA HEROs through the game of golf. The tournament is hosted at The Georgia Club.
In the Fall AND Spring, UGA HEROs drive to Krogers and Walmarts all-around the metro-Atlanta area to can for money and promote the HERO cause. Through those always-awkward moments, committee members and philanthropists bond together while raising tons of cash!
Twilight is one of the largest bike races in the Southeast, located in our very-own Athens. In 2009, UGA HEROs created a HUGE presence at Twilight on April 24 and 25, as we set up canning tables all-across downtown, volunteered at the rock wall and fast-pitch machine, sold local art and promoted our cause to the 30,000 students, alumni and guests that attended.
As an organization at The University of Georgia, it would be blasphemy not to throw a tailgate into the fundraising mix! At G-Day 2009, the Alumni Relations committee put together a HERO Tailgate, where we played corn hole, sold grilled food and refreshments, all while promoting our cause.
Almost every night of the week, UGA HEROs are roaming about downtown Athens to raise money for our children. Sometimes out until 2 in the morning, HEROs rallies the student body around our cause, raising around $500 a week.
Letter-writing is the most-effective way that UGA HEROs raises money each year. By asking philanthropists and committee members to write letters to friends and family, we gain a huge-amount of support throughout Georgia.
In the digital age, letters do not appeal to everyone. In the Fall of 2008, HEROs launched their first-ever e-mail campaign. Members sent e-mails to family, friends, old teachers, neighbors, etc. to ask for small donations to reach our goal. We also asked people to forward our message to their friends to get our message to as many people as we could possibly imagine. The best part about it... IT WORKED!! In December of 2008, UGA HEROs announced that it raised over $363,000 in that year alone!
